OK, I have to share another pet peeve of mine. When I use my debit or credit card to checkout at any store, the machine always asks this question, to which I'm unable give an honest answer, "Is this amount OK?" Hmm. To be honest, no, it's not OK. I'd like to pay you 50% less, but you're not giving me that option, so I guess I'll have to say yes. The more appropriate question would be, "Is this amount correct?" or "Is this amount accurate?"
Maybe I'm just being picky, but honestly, every single time I want to answer, "No, I want to pay less." I've mentioned this to several cashiers and they've laughed and agreed it is a dumb question.
So there's my rant for the day. Will someone kindly tell the makers of the credit/debit card machines to please restate the question? Sigh. Probably not. I suppose I'm just stuck with this pet peeve, unless I want to go back to using cash.
hehe, that is a dumb question!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Every time I see that I think, "What a stupid question!" And like you, I always have this urge to say no I want to pay less, where's that option?
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Right there with you! I've always thought the wording was stupid.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. Whenever a waiter or waitress tells me to pay them whenever I'm ready, I always think "How about never?"
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on this one, but it's not the makers of the credit/debit card machines per se but who "programmed" the software for the machines.
ReplyDeleteIt was a programmer and programmers speak in a whole different language; and a tester who didn't catch it when they tested.
So you now have more people to blame!!
@Dan: LOL! I didn't think of that one.
ReplyDelete@Christy it is a dumb question and I think it too every single time I see it. Never have said anything though. LOL!
ReplyDelete@Dan LOL! That's really funny!
@A Good QA Tester I've worked with programmers. You're right. They speak a whole different language. Are you the tester who didn't catch that? LOL! ;-)
@Michelle: I am good tester that would have caught it and made the programmer change it :-)
ReplyDelete@A Good QA Tester LOL! Great answer! Wish you had been the one testing that product on that day! :-)
ReplyDelete@Dan, LOL! That's great! I like that one!
ReplyDelete@A Good QA Tester, I'm with @Michelle, and wish you had been on duty the day those machines were tested. I do believe you would have caught the offending question. ;-)
LOL! I hate that dumb question too! I find myself staring at the little machine and wanting to click NO. Love this post @Christy. I like your little pet peeve posts. They're funny and so true.
ReplyDelete@Dan you cracked me up! That was a great line!
Oh and I love the new look of your blog! Very nice! It's been so long since I've been here, I can't remember exactly what it looked like before, but I remember it was brown. I like blue much better.
ReplyDelete@Tammy! It's so good to see you here. Glad you like my new look. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted.
ReplyDeleteOk I have to share my pet peeve for the day...people parking too close to your car.
ReplyDeleteToday I went to lunch and ran into the local grocery store. When I came out there was a car parked too close to my car that I could barely open the driver's side door. So I had to go around the passenger side and do a circus act inside the car to get over to the driver's seat.
Why do people park to close? Why is not a little common courtesy in this world?
Ok there is my rant for the day...
@Amanda, don't even get me started on people who do that! I once came out of a restaurant to find a Lincoln Navigator (yes, this was 11 years ago and I still remember what it was) parked, and I kid you not, within 1 inch of the driver's side of my car. I couldn't believe it and neither could the friend I was with. Like you said, I had to do a circus act to get to my seat from the passenger's side of the car.
ReplyDeleteSome people have no sense of common courtesy. They are the same people who park in two parking spaces in a packed parking lot. Just annoying.
So I feel for you and there's my rant. :-)
I had people that have large SUV or trucks and park in compact spots....I have a Honda and can park in one. When I drive our mini-van, I don't park in a compact spot.
ReplyDeleteI dislike idiot drivers.
Ok what's going on here, is everyone busy????
ReplyDelete@Amanda, I think spring has arrived most places (not where I am) and people are out having fun in the warmer weather. Maybe. @Steven and I have both been busy with work the past week. Next week will be a busy one for me too. Wish me luck.
ReplyDelete........listening to the crickets...
LOL @Christy! It is a dumb question. Now I'll always think about you when I answer that dumb question. ;-) BTW, the wife loved this post!
ReplyDeleteAwwww...thanks @Goose! It's nice to know you'll think of me when looking at something dumb. LOL! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more!!!
ReplyDelete@Christy: It's been quiet over here, hope all is well or maybe you are in Texas with @Steven64
ReplyDelete@Amanda, it has been quiet! That's a good thing for me. Watch for my next post (hopefully within the next day or so) to explain what has been happening. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I didn't make it on the plane to Texas due to something no one saw coming. @Steven and I were very disappointed, but are thankful and calling the trip postponed until a little later. All will be fine. :-)
ReplyDelete@Christy: Sorry to hear that you didn't make it to Texas. I am looking forward to reading your next post. Hope all is well. It's been busy in my world.
ReplyDelete@Christy...I have to tell I was at a store the other day and the Debit/Card card said..."Is this amount correct". I almost laugh out loud because of your blog. Just had to share, so there are good QA testers out there!!
ReplyDelete@A Good QA Tester, LOL! Yay for good QA testers! Thanks for sharing!
