A Few Views of My World

A few people have asked me to post some of my photos. Soon I'll be taking new ones, but in the meantime, here are a few of my current faves.

The Twilight Zone opening? The Time Tunnel? Am I a sci-fi geek? No, no, and yes. It's actually a purple Slinky on a dark couch. I took it one day after being snowed in at home for several days (final snow count; 7 feet-ish).

Most people enjoy the view from the top of lighthouses. I'm afraid of heights and prefer the view from the safety of the ground. During a trip to the Oregon coast, my friends trekked up the stairs to take in the vista. As I watched them huff and puff their way up, I thought the view from my perspective was really cool too.

Drip, drip, drop. As the above mentioned 7 foot snowfall began to melt, I saw this icicle and wondered how long it would take to get a photo of a single drop. Surprisingly, not that long. I think it took me 4 or 5 shots in just a few minutes.

This reminds me of a postcard. @Steven and I went for a drive and stopped at a park along a river in Spokane, WA. The day was perfect. The snow was crisp, the sky was a perfect blue, and there weren't many people out (possibly because it was 9 degrees).

This photo always reminds me of my mom. We drove up to Green Bluff in the Washington area, and stopped so we could take photos of this sunflower. I framed it so I could get the blue sky and red barn as well. My wonderful mom was so focused on the flower, she never saw the big red barn. She did manage to accidentally get it in her shots. And she says I'm unobservant...

When you enter Yellowstone National Park it clearly states you must stay at least 25 yards aways from the elk. They are wild. However, once you're in the park and people are rushing to pull over and take photos, it's easy to get caught up in the moment. I was so excited, I ran up to him and began snapping photos. I was thrilled no one else was around me. Yay! It was only after he bellowed...loudly, that I looked around and saw that everyone with half a brain was standing behind their cars, including my mom. I stupidly took another shot or two anyway, then joined them.

The Sapphire Pools at Yellowstone National Park are incredible. If you ever want to see how many colors are possible in nature, visit Yellowstone. It's simply gorgeous. I stood and stared at this bubbling pool for a while before remembering I might be able to capture it in a photo. This is close, but I still don't think it shows off just how beautiful it really is.

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you know this is Haystack Rock on the Oregon coast. If you've never been to the Oregon coast, I highly recommend making the trip and doing the drive. It's beautiful. Some friends and I spent several days touring the coast and other parts of Oregon. This shot was near the end of the day and it was so peaceful. I'd love to go back some day soon.

This is the view from the top of Steptoe Butte in WA. The fact that I was able to snap this photo is nothing short of a miracle. I'm terrified of heights and the drive up to the top of the butte is harrowing. Imagine a tiny road that is supposedly two lanes. (Uh huh. Two lanes if one is a car and the other is a bicycle!) It winds around the butte in a giant corkscrew. So if you're in the passenger seat, you're on the edge of a cliff the entire way up. Frightening! But somehow I managed to survive and left only shallow finger dents in the car seat. I'm really glad I did it, but I'm not sure I could do it again. Unless someone offered to pay me. A lot.

I was standing on a bridge, looking down into crystal clear water and realized the bridge was perfectly reflected, but with depth and texture. I liked the effect the water created.

During a trip to Atlanta, some friends and I stopped by the church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached. It is now a memorial to Dr. King, and while you view photos and take in the atmosphere, they play his most famous speech over loud speakers. As everyone silently sat in the pews and took it all in, I snapped this photo. I was moved by the history of it. The wood is worn where hands have gripped it over the years, hands that belonged to people who had the privilege of hearing Dr. King firsthand, hands of people who perhaps marched for equal rights and freedom, hands of people who maybe changed the history of our country. This photo is one of my favorites. Every time I see it I'm reminded of that day and that moment.

  2. Wow!! Amazing photos!

  3. I'm with @Amanda,amazing photos! Love the little stories you wrote about them. It makes me want to get out and see more of America. You have a great eye and a way with words.

  4. These photos are wonderful!! I love that icicle one, but I love the others too :D

    ReplyDelete
  5. One of my faves is the icicle too. Not only would I not have had the patience to try to get that one drop, it wouldn't even have occurred to me to try! I've been up to the WA several times now and have yet to see an elk (or a moose), so I'm grateful for the "guerilla shot" you got of Elmer, @Christy. (I named the elk Elmer. Just seemed to fit.)

@Katie: It's funny you said that. We toyed with the idea of putting a photo of us but I think I was the one that poo-poo'd the idea. All of @Christy's photos are so artistic and the ones of us...aren't. LOL! Maybe some other time though. :-)

(@Amanda: Check out my blog when you get a chance. Funny stuff! [for a change])

  6. Awesome photos, little darling! Great descriptions too. I've watched your slideshow at the top of the page, but it's nice to see larger photos and read about where you were and what was happening.

@Steven: Elmer does fit. He looks like an Elmer. @Christy: Great story with that one! Glad you weren't hurt, and fun shot!

I'm with you @Steven, I'd like the icicle, but never would have the patience to take it. Of course I'm not an artsy photo guy. My wife would look at it then go paint it.

Speaking of her, I'm going to show her these when I get home tonight. She'll love them.

My favorite is the Slinky. Very cool. Never would have guessed that's what it is. Nice creative shot.

  7. @Steven: You know you two are probably going to have to give in some day. I've seen that request come up several times on here. I'd be resistant too.

    ReplyDelete
  8. @All, thank you so much! I'm always amazed at what can be done with a little point and shoot camera. I think I "luck" into a lot of my really cool shots.

@Katie, Steven's right, we did talk about putting one of us, but decided to stick with these for this post. Maybe in the future. :-)

@Hooka, I like the Slinky too. It was one of those, "I wonder what would happen if I did this" shots. Who knew it would be so cool?

@Steven, as we've talked about, I still haven't seen a moose either. When you're here and we're out driving, we will be on "Moose Patrol". I'm determined to at least see one from a distance, even if I can't get a photo. Maybe together we can find one.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sorry, but LOL at the Elmer the Elk story. So glad you weren't hurt! Funny that even after you realized everyone else was behind cars you decided to snap a couple of other photos. I have to admit, I probably would have been right there with you, elbowing you out of the way. LOL! :-)

My favorite is the snow picture you took when you were with @Steven. Beautiful! It looks so serene. I'd like to have a house with that view.

  10. Nice photos! Love them!

  11. @Kara: Re: Snow Pic - We were on our way to @Christy's office on a Saturday afternoon and she pulled into this little parking lot. I was oblivious. ("You work here?") Then we got out of the car and I looked up and it was just...breathtaking. The river (I thought it was very lake-like, but I've been told repeatedly that it's a river) was perfectly flat and still. Some weirdo was just putting his kayak in the water (8 degrees outside!), but where we were was totally serene. Gotta love digital cameras. We just shot photo after photo after photo. Very, very cool.

    However...

@Christy: ...I still wanna see an elk or a moose...;-P

    ReplyDelete
  12. LOL @Kara! It's good to know I would have had company in my goofiness if you had been at Yellowstone with me! :-) And I love that photo of the river and snow too. @Steven described the day well. Although I had completely forgotten about the weirdo in the kayak. LOL! It was just a perfect day!

@Steven, Moose Patrol! We will be victorious!

  13. @Christy..I love the Haystack Rock, Or. picture I have to get to OR. I live the the Northwest, just never got to Oregon..now I am going to put it on places to visit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Debbie, definitely do! The whole Oregon coast is beautiful. Cannon Beach, OR is really pretty and very popular. I was lucky enough to have a friend who grew up in Oregon show me around the state when I visited. I really want to go back one day to take more photos. Plus it just such a relaxing place.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @Steven if you want to Elk & Moose you have to go to Montana. There you see bears crossing the interstate. Beautifual state.

    Love your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Amanda, I look for moose every time we drive through Montana and I've never seen one. :-( That's OK, I'm determined! It is a beautiful state.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Christy where was the one you took with @Steven taken? I mean specifically where in Spokane? I'm in Spokane and I can't place it. I know he said you pulled into a parking lot, but where? So beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Terri, it's on Upriver Dr. between Argonne and Freya (closer to Argonne). There's a place for cars to park along the river where a lot of people go swimming during the summer. Does that help?

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Christy Yes! I know exactly where that is! Thanks! I NEVER would have guessed that's where you took it. Wow! Talk about perspective, getting the right angle, lighting, snow, having the right eye, etc. GREAT JOB! I don't think I've ever seen that view from that parking lot.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Christy, does your mom read this blog? Just wondering about the red barn photo and description. LOL! I love that one. It's really pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Sweet Pea, LOL! Yes, she does read it. In fact, I expect her to comment any day now. She doesn't check it very often, but give her time and I guarantee she will have a comment. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Amanda: I think Montana scares me more than running into a Moose or an Elk! All that open country...no wifi...public bathrooms...LOL!

@Terri: I was telling @Christy that I'd like to go back to that exact same spot on the river in the spring and take another photo, just to see how different it looks. I'm not nearly as good a photographer as @Christy, and even I couldn't take a bad picture there.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Sweet Pea: I was wondering the same thing about @Christy's mom! LOL! I was like, "Ooooo, she's gonna geddit..."

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Terri, don't believe @Steven. He's a much better photographer than I am. He's an artist and looks at things with an artist's eye.

@Steven, we will go back to that same spot and try to recreate the shots. I think it would be really cool.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Steven..I would be scared of the public bathrooms in MT in the campgrounds...LOL! Big Flys in the summertime. There is Wifi in the big cities :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Amanda: Well...as long as they've got Wifi and I've got a bottle of Purel hand sanitizer, I guess I can handle it. LOL! My mom and I drove up to Mt. Ranier and we both had to go to the bathroom at the campground. OMG. I won't even go into a lotta detail, but the flies were as big as grapes. Not an outdoorsy kinda guy. ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Steven..those flies you saw at Mt. Rainer were small compared to the ones I saw in MT...LOL! I am not an outdoorsy kinda gal either ;-p

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Amanda: Did I mention...grapes? The dark ones? LOL! Actually, I'm betting MT flies kick WA flie's butts. Everything seems to big and nature-y in MT. And my idea of outdoorsy is hanging by a lake for a few hours. And then going back to the hotel! And air conditioning. And running water. And carpet.
And cable TV. And a BED. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Christy I love your photo and story about MLK. Very moving! It's really interesting because when I first saw the photo, it was my least favorite, but then I read the reason you took it, and the entire photo took on a whole new meaning and depth. Excellent!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mom does usually notice everything, but I do tend to get a little focused on one thing, ok maybe a little obsessive sometimes, but I still got great pictures of the barn as well as the flower even though I didn't notice until Christy said something later. To add to my humiliation, my good friend who has taught me all I know about my camera and taking great photos, showed my picture in church and told the story. So now the world will know and I am ok with that. I find at 65 I often do a lot of goofy things and it has become quite normal. At least I have something to laugh about everyday! Don't let the girl fool you. She IS the most unobservant person I know and it started early in life. Ask her about the bicycle:) Love you sweet girl!

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Christy I was just going to comment on my favorite photo (the sunflower), but I just read @Jimmye's comment and now I HAVE to know about the bicycle! LOL! Come on. Spill it. :-)

Seriously, the sunflower photo is great! The colors are beautiful and there is something about the way everything is arranged. I'm no artist, but it looks pretty perfect to me. I'd hang that on my wall at home. Very nice, my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh and @Jimmye it's hysterical that your friend shared the story with everyone at church! I'm sure it was embarrassing, but still very funny! Glad you can laugh at yourself. Life is a whole lot more fun that way! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL! I was showing your photos to a friend and noticed your mom did reply! Too funny! You were right @Christy! LOL!

@Jimmye, if she doesn't tell us the bicycle story, will you? LOL!

I also think it's hilarious that your friend shared your story with everyone at church. OMG! I'd die, but then later I'd think it was a funny story to tell people. Very cute!

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Christy one of the things I noticed and commented on when I first visited your blog was your slideshow. I think your photos are amazing! You have a really good, artistic eye. Thanks for posting some in a larger format so we can see more detail, and the descriptions are great. I really like hearing the story behind the photo. If it were up to me, you'd do that for all the photos in your slideshow. There are a few I can't quite figure out what they are, so I'd love to hear about them.

@Jimmye your story is awesome! I wondered if @Christy's mom knew she was posting something telling the world how unobservant you are. LOL! Little did we know you have friends who have outed you too! That's great! It made me laugh.

Like everyone else, I'm really curious about the bicycle story. You know you're going to have to tell us @Christy. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Jimmye and @Christy: (clears throat) Bicycle...?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I will give dear daughter an opportunity to respond, but if she doesn't I will gladly tell the bicycle story:)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm casting my vote to hear the bicycle story too! LOL!

@Jimmye I'm with everyone else about your friend showing your photo and telling everyone. That's funny!

    ReplyDelete
  38. OK fine. Here's the bicycle story. Thanks a lot Mom! I love you anyway. :-)

I think I was 4 years old, and my usual Saturday routine was to get up bright and early, race to the TV, turn it on and watch cartoons raptly until Mom made breakfast. My 5th birthday just happened to fall on a Saturday, so I woke, raced as usual to the TV, ran around a brand new bicycle, turned the TV on, ran back around the bicycle, and sat down to raptly watch cartoons through the bicycle for...a while. I'm not sure how much time elapsed before Mom finally asked what I thought about the bicycle.

What I do remember is asking, “What bicycle?”

Mom, “The bicycle in front of you.”

    Me blankly, “What bicycle?”

Mom laughing, “You don’t see that bicycle?”

    Me, “No.”

I think she actually had to walk to the bicycle and stand next to it before I saw it.

Of course I was excited, but I swear to you it wasn’t there when I turned that TV on and watched cartoons for the first however many minutes I was up. REALLY!

So, yes everyone, I watched television through a bicycle and NEVER SAW IT. That’s how unobservant I am.

    ReplyDelete
  39. LMAO! @Christy that is so funny! Your mom is right. You are much more unobservant! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh @Christy! LMAO! That is a good story! Yep, @Terri is right, you are much more unobservant!

@Steven you're going to have to keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't walk into a tree or something! LOL! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've been waiting to see if you or your mom would post the story. Had a feeling it would be a doozy and it is! LMAO!

@Jimmye any other good ones like this? LOL!

@Denise you're right! He's going to have to look out for her! LOL!

@Steven when you give her gifts, how long does it take before she sees them?

@Christy you know we love you, right? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's right. Laugh it up. Make fun of me. I can take it. LOL! Really, I can. It's been a joke in my family for years. :-)

I can't tell you how many things I don't notice, but then sometimes I'll notice the oddest thing that no one else does. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  43. LMAO!!!! That's a really great story @Christy! OMG! How do you watch TV through a bike and never see it? How? Really? How? LOL!

Thanks for mentioning this story @Jimmye! You're the best! And what sweet revenge for her outing you about the barn! LOL! I know it's all in good fun. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Ally Cat There are many I could bring up, but Christy might disown me:) Love you daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Jimmye:You were most gracious giving your dear daughter a chance to 'fess up!

    @Christy: Oh...honey.

    @Denise: I can be her seeing-eye-guy!

    @Alley Cat: ...gifts...? LOL!

    _____

Actually, she's observant enough - she noticed ME!

    ReplyDelete
  46. @Steven when you go back in the spring or summer to the river to recapture those photos you took of the snow, make sure @Christy sees the river and doesn't fall in! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Mom (aka @Jimmye) DO NOT begin telling stories. :-)

    @Steven awwwww...you're so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Steven that was really sweet!

@Jimmye oh please tell us more! LOL! Just kidding. We love @Christy and don't want to upset her. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  49. OK, first, the story about @Jimmye under the photo was really cute. But the story about @Christy was hilarious! Like mother like daughter? LOL! You two are cute!

@Steven - "Actually, she's observant enough - she noticed ME!" That was a VERY good line! You get points for it in my book. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. LOL @Jimmye! OK. I don't want to be responsible for her disowning you. :-)

@Steven I hope you give her gifts! Wait! Tell her you did and she just didn't notice! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Had to add one more thing.

Invisible trikes aside, I have to say that I like the lighthouse staircase photo. I just think there's something sort of lyrical and hypnotic about it. The lights, the ironwork winding around - I just think it's cool. And I'd love to see the Steptoe Butte photograph HUGE.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Steven I've been to Steptoe Butte and it is beautiful in real life. I'm sure this photo would be amazing if it were large. @Christy is right. The drive up is really scary. I don't like it, but I'd do it again to see the view. You should talk her into doing it so you can take some photos.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Steven I really like the lighthouse photo too. I can't tell if she shot it in black and white or if it's in color and there just is no color to it. But there is something very musical about it. I love the repeating, ever smaller lights. Lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I write a comment, I hit 'Post Comment', I hear ding!, and realize that I'm, like, 5 comments behind! LOL!

    @Christy, @Denise and @Janie: Aw, shucks, thanks. :-)

@Terri: When I was visiting Seattle last summer, my mom and I drove up to Mt. Ranier (@Amanda and I traded war stories about grape-sized flies and nasty bathrooms earlier) and it was treacherous. Narrow, two-lane road; people zipping down the mountain while we were going up, and a nearly sheer drop down a cliff.

Like you said about Steptoe though, it was worth it. There were little scenic stop-offs on the way up and it just got more and more spectacular. Like take-your-breath-away spectacular. And don't worry, when @Christy return to the river, I'll make sure she stays dry! (Maybe I'll drive though. Gotta watch out for...bicyclists. D'OH!)

@Alley Cat: The blacks and dark grays are so rich in that photo that it almost looks like it was shot in black and white, but I can't tell. @Christy...?

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Steven: Now you make me want to go visit Mt. Rainer except for the flies. And the bathrooms were nasty in MT at the campground. My idea of camping in Best Western.

    @Chrsty where is Steptoe Butte?

    ReplyDelete
  56. @Christy: Forgot to say loved your bike story..too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Amanda, Steptoe Butte is in Whitman County, WA. Don't ask me how to get there, I'm directionally challenged. LOL! I usually let someone else do the driving. About the bike story, thanks! I really am that unobservant. :-)

@Alley Cat, the lighthouse photo was taken in color, but I used some ancient little program years ago to convert it to black and white because the effect was more dramatic. I believe I took it in 2002.

@Steven, if we go anywhere that requires driving UP, you will definitely be driving us. And you're probably right about driving us in the summer since we have so many bicyclists out and about. I'll just let you do all the driving. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Steven & Christy: got ask is Steven to scary looking and thats why he doesn't want his picture posted or is he wanted by the FBI :-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Peggy Sue: (g-g-r-r-r-rowl, snarl, drool) Nope, I look perfectly normal! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Steven..Just wondering...enquiring eyes want to look. LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Peggy Sue: LOL! A couple of other folks have been curious too. I imagine @Christy will eventually post a picture of the two of us together, looking annoyingly happy ('cos we are). I'm just trying to imagine the title of a post devoted entirely to...us. Gawd! LOL!

Anyway, I think this particular entry was more about the cool, artistic photos she's taken over the years. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Peggy Sue - I'm curious too. We can see @Christy in her profile pic. She's pretty! We know he isn't Spock. Or is he?

    We'll be patient.

    ReplyDelete
  63. @Sweet Pea: I'm Spock-ish in spirit only (honest, logical, etc.). LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  64. LOL! Good to know @Steven! Still want to see what you look like though. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Sweet Pea: Well, I'm tall, dark and...well, tall. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Judging by @Christy's photo, her writings, her photography, etc. I think she probably has excellent taste in men, so I'm guessing you're tall, dark and handsome. Now we just need to see proof! LOL!

    Wait!

@Jimmye! You're her mom! Have you met him? Is he tall, dark and handsome? Let's have you weigh in. :-)

See @Steven, there are ways around you. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Sweet Pea: @Christy will love your comment. But doing an end-run with Jimmye? Women are just devious! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Steven..so are you saying you're not cool or artistic ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  69. Why would you say that @Peggy Sue? @Christy already told us he's an artist. Confused...

    ReplyDelete
  70. And he seems very cool to me. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. @Peggy Sue: Oh, I'm both, in spades! But, y'know, it would be tacky for me to say it here, so I won't. ;-P (Plus, @Christy wouldn't hang with a complete dork. A geek maybe, but never a dork!)

    ReplyDelete
  72. @All...I am kidding around with @Steven and I think he knows it ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  73. @All...just to clarify; @Steven said Christy's blog was more about the cool, artistic photos. That's why I joked with him about not being cool and artistic and not having a picture here, get now?

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Janie and @Peggy Sue: And to further clarify, I'm a graphic designer and dabble in fine art. So I'm sorrrrt of an arteest. ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ohhhhh... Sorry @Peggy Sue. I do get it. I was confused. Chalk it up to me trying to read blogs while a 2 year old and 6 year old were begging for my attention. LOL! This is why I usually do it late at night or during the day when they're sleeping and at school. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Janie: Shame on you for letting your children sleep at school! LOL! Sorry, I'm just givin' ya a hard time. I couldn't resist. ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  77. LOL! I guess my wording was a little iffy on that! :-P

    ReplyDelete
  78. @Janie: LOL! It was kinda cute actually. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thanks @Steven, you're sweet. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Janie, that was cute!

@Steven, you need to talk @Christy into doing a post that's something like vacation photos of the two of you to satisfy us all. I believe you're tall, dark, and handsome! You just seem like you should be. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  81. @Peggy Sue, Sweet Pea, Janie, and Amy...

Just finished reading all your posts wondering what in the world @Steven looks like (you're right @Sweet Pea, he's not Spock). I definitely understand your curiosity, I'd be curious too if I were you. :-)

I can assure you he is indeed tall (6' 4"), dark, and very handsome. As @Steven and I have commented, I didn't include photos of us because this post was all about some of my "art," such that it is. If you've looked at my past posts, I usually don't include a lot of people pics unless they fit in with a story I'm telling (my grandma, and my mom and stepdad).

Honestly, it's just never occurred to me to include personal photos on my blog. I have friends who do it, but I never thought anyone would be interested in pics of my personal life, so I've left them out. @Steven and I are planning a little vacation time together in a month, so maybe I'll pick a few good ones then and post them. We'll see. By then you all probably will have forgotten about us and will be wondering @Steven and @Christy who? LOL!

In the meantime, take my word for it, he's beautiful inside and out. @Janie, he is very sweet. @Peggy Sue, he is cool and artistic. @Steven, you are awesomely geeky. And yeah, you're an ah-tist, baby! He's all this and so much more.

Now, let's have a "Draw what you think @Steven looks like." contest! Send your entries to my e-mail located in my profile. I'll give the winner a special prize. No fair playing if you've already seen or met him. LOL! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Now that was a very nice post, @Christy! :-) You really do write well. Getting back to your blog for a moment (OMG, novel idea), I really have liked reading a lot of your posts. You wrote one about your grandma that was very moving! And the photo you included of her was gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Now, back to @Steven, it's so funny on blogs and forums because you sometimes never see the actual face of the person you communicate with, but you feel like you know them. I often wonder what people look like and sometimes I've found out, only to learn I was really wrong! One time, I thought I was talking to a woman for over a year about poetry, and it turned out to be a man! Totally innocent and totally not his fault. I jumped to assumptions. The internet is an odd place. I just think people feel like they've gotten to know you both, and it would be nice to see what you both look like. We can see your profile pic and you seem fairly open, but we wonder why @Steven chose Spock over his own face. Probably is something really innocent and totally lame. :-)

  83. @Amy: I'm glad I at least seem handsome! LOL!

It's funny. @Christy and I were - have been - talking about blogs and how we feel like we've gotten to know a few people over the last couple months, but we have no idea what most anyone looks like. We guessed once and were wrong on both the looks and gender! But I can definitely understand you'd be curious about me, especially since you can see @Christy.

About Spock. (hehe) I started visiting a forum for (geek!) soundtrack lovers. After lurking for a few months, I decided I wanted to post a comment, but I couldn't until I set up a Google account thingy. Everyone on the forum used 'avatars' instead of photos of themselves (cats, the Enterprise, whatever), so I did too. I've been a Trekkie for...well, forever. And I loved the recent movie, so Spock won. And that's it. Not very interesting, I'm afraid. ;-P

@Christy: Aww, thank you, baby. But...a drawing contest? Really?! LOL! It's okay, I still love you.♥

  84. Ah ladies! I've seen a photo of @Steven and @Christy and I can tell you he is definitely handsome! They make a very beautiful couple!

@Christy I really like your pictures and descriptions! My favorite is the Martin Luther King pew. Wow! I'd love to go there some day.

My second favorite is the Sapphire Pool at Yellowstone. The color is beautiful! That's another place I'd love to go some day. I've never been anywhere! LOL!

You have a real talent for taking pictures @Christy. I can't wait to see what you take and post next! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sweet post @Christy! Now that you have @Tammy backing you up, we'll believe you about him being tall, dark and handsome. :-) Still want to see him some day though, so please do post your vacation photos!

I love the drawing contest idea! If I could draw, I'd totally do it! LMAO! You could post them in your blog and we could vote on which one we thought might look most like him! This could be fun! Sorry @Steven, but all you had to do was post a photo. LOL!! ;-)

I do like your Spock avatar, btw. :-) Even if it isn't you.

  86. @Christy first, your post with the photos. Wonderful! The Slinky is way cool! I still can't figure out how you did it though. It doesn't look like the whole Slinky. So I don't know. But I am going to try my own Slinky shot this weekend. Very creative! I like shots like that. Take something very ordinary and shoot it from a different angle or perspective so you can't really tell what it is, but it looks totally rad. That's my kind of photography.

I also like the bridge reflected in the water. I see a lot of shots of scenery reflected in smooth water from a distance, but to take something like a cool looking bridge and photograph it in water that's rippling was a twist. Very nice! The colors are good and the effect is good.

Someone else mentioned some in your slideshow that they can't quite tell what they are, but would like to know more about and see bigger. I'm with them. I've watched your photo slideshow several times because you have a lot of photos, and there are a few that I find mesmerizing. I'd love to see you take more like them. They're the ones that are abstract, kind of off, you know the ones you just can't place what or where they are. But that's just me.

Now, about @Steven and what he looks like. LMAO ladies! I think it's funny as hell that some of you are so obsessed with it, but I have to admit after reading so many posts by him and knowing that they are a couple, I'd like to know what kind of guy @Christy goes for. She looks normal, so he can't be too off the wall. No major tatts, not a lot of piercings, no spiked hair... LOL! He is an artist though... LOL! But I'll take @Christy and @Tammy at their word that he's a looker and wait for those vacay photos. ;-)

Oh and the drawing idea? Totally awesome! I wonder if anyone will take you up on it? If they do, please post it @Christy! Please! LOL! :-)

  87. @Tammy: Awww! Thanks, darlin'. :-)

@Sweet Pea: I figured if I had to have an avatar, it may as well be one of the coolest cats out there. And is one cool mutha'! ("Shut yo' mouth! But ah'm talkin' 'bout Spock!")

@Claudia: I shot some photos when I was Seattle visiting my mom and got some really cool ones of trees reflected in a glass-smooth lake. But it never would've occurred to me to shoot something reflected in rippled water like @Christy did. And I'm supposed to be a "pro"!

In spite of myself, I'm starting to get curious about what some of these drawings might turn out like...LOL! (Of course, portraits are the hardest to draw, especially when the subject is an unknown Spock wannabe.)

  88. @Steven, I thought you'd love the drawing contest! Can't believe you don't like my brilliant idea! But I still love you too. ♥

@Tammy, thank you! And it's good to see you back on my blog! I missed you!

@Sweet Pea, that is such a funny idea! Post the pictures if anyone submits one. I highly doubt I'll get even one, but if I do, you bet I'll post it. ;-)

@Claudia, thanks for the comments about my photos! I love trying new things and new angles. You never know what you'll get. Most of what I get is garbage though. LOL! Oh and @Steven is very normal. :-)

@Steven, I think you got a little confused there in your last post. I'm getting visions of Shaft, not Spock. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  89. @Christy: Oh, I like the drawing contest, really. I mean, hey, art's art, right? (Except when it's not!) ;-P

Okay ladies. Put your money (or your pens) where your mouths are and put pencil to paper. I dare ya. I double-dare ya! (When tact doesn't work, peer-pressure's always a fun alternative.)

    ReplyDelete
  90. But I can't draw! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  91. @Christy your post about @Steven was really, really sweet!

@Ladies, I've seen a photo of the two of them together too and I can tell you they look perfect as a couple, and he is a very good looking man! Lucky lady @Christy! @Steven DO NOT let all this go to your head! LOL!

@Christy the drawing contest is so funny! @Steven I can't believe you dared everyone! That's GREAT! You both crack me up!

Getting ready to leave town for a few days to see my dad, so both your blog and @Steven's have made me smile today. Thank you! :-)

  92. @Ladies, I know what @Steven looks like by doing a little detective work but I am think the drawing contest is a great idea!

    ReplyDelete
  93. @Terry, our little blog detective. I'd love to know how you found out! E-mail me and tell me your secrets. It might come in handy for me some day. LOL! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  94. @Det. Terry: LOL! So you've discovered I'm not a drooling, snarling scary-guy. LOL! And, yes, I'm curious how 'found me out' too. Inquiring minds wanna know! ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  95. Oh, and @Ladies, get busy because we do have one entry in the drawing contest. @Sweet Pea has sent her drawing to me. Come on! Let's see those artistic abilities! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  96. @Christy: I sent you an email with my handy dandy detective work.

    ReplyDelete
  97. @Terry, you get the award for being detective of the year on my blog! Excellent detective work, my friend! Nice that you even included a photo of him in the e-mail as proof. I'm impressed! Good work! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  98. @Christy: it's a hobby of mine, I say if I ever win the Lottery I am going to be a PI...LOL!

For now I do it to keep track my kids friends and make sure they are not hanging out with questionable characters.

    ReplyDelete
  99. OK. I'm intrigued. First by the drawing contest. I can't draw, but it sounds like fun! Second by how Terry found out what he looked liked! Some secrets should remain hidden I guess though.

Good for you Terry for keeping track of your kids friends! I try to do that to because you can't be to careful these days.

Christy I love you photos and your blog. Fun stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  100. @Terry: Your detective work was exemplary, truly. You get the "Where There's A Will, There's A Way" medal! LOL!

    _________

I'm just afraid that when the rest of you guys finally see me (not that that's any big prize), you'll all be like, "...oh...". LOL! But @Terry, I'm glad your curiosity's been satisfied.

@Beth: I'm glad you checked out @Christy's photos in the midst of all this @Steven-finding. Her random, beautiful shots are the real highlight of this post.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Steven her photos are beautiful. I was watching her slideshow and found myself just staring, watching the photos scroll through and wondering about each one. She's very talented. Not just with her photo taking, but with her writing too. I was reading some of her posts and really enjoyed them. She moved me.

    ReplyDelete
  102. LOL! @Terry you're great! Now, tell us what he looks like! I want to know if my picture I sent it even close. LOL! Is he what you thought he'd look like?

@Steven you know you think you're the best no matter what you look like. You've been such a good sport about all this. Thanks for playing along with us. You've made this so much fun!

@Christy you're a lucky lady! I'll bet he's a lot of fun to be with. Now when does the contest close and when do I win? LOL! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  103. @All: @Christy's photos are the stars of the blog per se...finding a picture of @Steven was just like a candle on top of the cake. I believe in due time @Steven and @Christy will share a picture of them together. We just have to be patient.

I love the pictures that @Christy shared especially the ones in Yellowstone. I love your story about the Elk..too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  104. @Terry, Beth and Steven, thank you for the kind words about my photos and blog. It's really nice to know people appreciate what I'm putting out there. I enjoy it, and hope others do too.

@Terry, Yellowstone is just so gorgeous, I think it's impossible to take a bad photo there. And I felt like a dork when I realized why I was getting such good unobstructed shots of the Elk, but yep, it makes a good story and proves once again that I'm a little unobservant of what's happening around me. :-)

@Sweet Pea, you'll know soon enough if you were close with your imaginative rendering of @Steven. :-)

@Steven, when we post our vacation photos, I don't think they will be disappointed. One month everyone. Until then, you'll have to wonder as you read whatever else pops into my head to post on my blog. ;-)

  105. @Christy are you OK? Click the email link in my Betty Boop icon and let me know. Thanks! :-)

  107. @Hooka: Oh, now this I gotta see! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  108. LOL! @Hooka and @Steven, I think the idea is intriguing. Hmmm... Considering it...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Do it! Do it! Do it!

Come on @Steven! Join me in encouraging her! LOL! Think of the fun!

    ReplyDelete
  110. @Hooka: Oooo, I dunno. This can be a hard room. Them women are tough, man!

    ReplyDelete
  111. @Steven, LOL! You don't think they'd like a change of pace? A little mood switch? I mean things have been a little dead in here lately. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  112. @Christy, Yes we need a new post!

    ReplyDelete
  113. @Amanda, I'm working on it. Trying to narrow down my next topic. Expect it soon. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  114. @Christy I'm ready for a new posting too. I'm ready to read something you've written. :-) Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I didn't know @Hooka had a blog! When things calm down for me a little, I'll have to check it out! Go @Hooka!

    ReplyDelete
  116. @Christy that was a good one! Things have been a little "dead" so perhaps you should pursue that new direction I suggested. LMAO!

Looking forward to seeing what you write next, little darling.

@Steven, Mr. Editor, I really would encourage a change of pace. Let's see what happens. We can handle the room. (thumbs his nose and starts to spit then remembers it ain't allowed in these parts)

    ReplyDelete
  117. @Christy: "Dead"? LOL!

@Hooka: LMAO! I was about to say the same thing about "dead"! (Omigod, I'm starting to think like you.) Funny how life can toss little hints at us, ain't it, @Christy? Hmmm...?

    ReplyDelete
  118. @Steven I'm afraid for you if you're starting to think like me! LOL!
