Dork of the Day (or The Ding That Wasn't)

When things happen to my condo or car, I like to take care of the problem as soon as possible so I don't have to worry about it. That's why when a rock hit my windshield, putting a nice sized ding in it, I immediately called a company to fill it in before it could become a full-fledged crack. I had used this company before and they'd always done an outstanding job. This day they provided the same outstanding service.

My appointment window was between 9:00 and 12:00; they were coming to me, so I wasn't going to lose any work time, just a lot of money to fix the rock ding. Around 10:00ish, a nice lady arrived to repair my windshield. But when I went outside to meet her, she said she couldn't see a current chip, just one that had already been repaired. Huh? I could clearly see it. Was she blind? Did they send me a newbie who hadn't been trained properly? No worries. I'd help her out. I opened my car door, slid behind the wheel, and pointed to the big rock ding.

"Ah!" she said as I joined her outside, "I see the problem."

And with that, she used her thumb to scrape away my "ding." Turns out my ding was...a bug. After apologizing to her profusely and being reassured that I wouldn't be charged for the bug diagnosis, she assured me I wasn't the first to call about a "rock/bug ding." That didn't keep me from feeling like the Dork of the Day, but it was nice to know I wasn't the only one.

We all have our dorky moments. They keep life interesting and sometimes provide a few laughs. So here's to me and my Dork of the Day moment!

  1. Kinda reminds of the time my electric toothbrush didn't work...because it wasn't plugged in properly. True story. Good times!

  4. Oh here is a Dork moment my husband did...LOL!! I met my husband for dinner at local Red Robin. We drove separately because I had been out of town for a few days visiting friends. I arrived about 5 minutes ahead of him, he got out of the his van to greet me. We went to dinner and when we came out 45 minutes later he went to get the keys from his pocket and realized he left the keys in the van and left the van running. Look on this face priceless..♥

  5. LOL, @Amanda! That's a very good one! I'm happy no one decided to help themselves to the running van. :-)

  6. @Amanda: Tell your hubby (if you ever admit to him that you posted this!) that, when I was in college, I locked my keys in my car...three times, three days in a row. The last time, my car was running. I was on a first-name basis with the AAA guys. NOT my finest hour(s).

  9. Ok I got one that my son did when he was about 6 or 7. I was going out to a meeting and he wanted to "spend some quailty time with Mom" so he decided to hide in the trunk of the car. I only found him when I got to the meeting because when I turned off the car I heard him in the trunk. Let's just say he was grounded for a long time....

  10. Christy, it's not just you! My whole life is all about dorkiness. I've tripped over air. I've dropped a can of Coke and watched it explode, soaking my kitchen as well as myself. Every day is a new dorky adventure. My philosophy is that if you're dorky, at least your life is never boring! :)

  11. I'm sure if I think about it a while I'll remember one, but the first thing that comes to mind is something my wife did once. She was drinking one of those Lemon Ice things and someone came by and asked the time. She immediately flipped her hand upside down to read her watch with the drink pouring into her lap. We didn't laugh then, but we do now.

Since others are posting theirs, I'll add mine.

I like to go to the park to sketch, and sometimes I'll get up and change angles to get perspective on my subject or help me see something I couldn't before. One day I was really into what I was sketching and I got up to move, forgetting the dancing fountain that was near the bench I had been sitting on. There's no edge around it, so you can walk over it in the summer and cool off. I was wearing a dress, strolling to a bench on the other side, and woosh! A stream of water went up the back underside of my dress, surprising me and the people who got a good view of my underthings. I played it cool and kept strolling to my car.

  16. @Christy this was really cute! LOL! I have a lot of Dork of the Day moments too. :)

One of mine was when I went to the mall for Christmas shopping. I forgot to pay attention to where I parked and lost my car when I came out. I thought I found it, but I couldn't get in. I tried and tried and started to panic. Then I realized it wasn't my car. A large SUV backed out of a parking space and I saw my car. I had been trying to break into it's twin. :)
